HEATLEY, NIITTYMAKI LEAD FLYERS IN BLOCK 6

Flyers go 6-3-1 To Stay In The Thick Of It

Philadelphia,PA- Dany Heatley scored 15 points (8g & 7a) to lead the offense & Antero Niittymaki won all 3 of his games to lead the Flyers to a 6-3-1 record, leaving them 3rd in the Southeast Conference at press time.

Flyers coach Keith Jones was not happy with the home effort (3-2-0) stating that they could easily have gone 0-5 because all 3 wins came in either OT or a Shootout. But then the Flyers went on the road and took 7 out of 10 points. In doing so they out scored the home teams 20-16, but you can subtract one due to the shootout loss in Pittsburgh.

The most impressive win of the block was in Buffalo. Jeff Carter scored 2 goals and added a helper in leading the Flyers to a 7-3 victory.

Niittymaki took the crease in 2 home games & 1 road game. At home, he beat the Bruins & the Maple Leafs, whom he also beat on the road. In the 3 games, he gave up 7goals on 94 shots for a .926 save percentage & a 2.23 GAA and 13-18 in GRs. Jones said he may go to Nitty 4 or 5 times in the next 10 game stretch. "I have to rest Giguere for at least 6 games, so why not go with Nitty now while he's hot?"
