Before the game of Columbus at Buffalo they had a little ceremony to acknowledge Mike Modano becoming the highest scoring American hockey player. Phil Housley said some words, "Congratulations Mike for the record and all your hard work has paid off. Now I have two things to be envious of you for. You have broken my record and of course I have always been jealous of your cool haircut."
Modano chuckled at the joke about his appearance but had no comment and accepted the puck graciously.
Then the Sabres' Housley gave Modano a little puck to mark the record. It was game time and the Bluejackets jumped off to a 2-0 lead. The Sabres registered zero GR;s in the first period. In the second period they got some and scored three times to take over the lead. But CLM's Bobby Holik tied it up with his 4th goal on the year. The Sabres Drury,Semin,Pominville line scored a couple in the 3rd period to win the game 5-3. Bluejackets forward Ryane Clowe played his first game and was all over the ice doing something of everything. He earned no.3 star with his first goal and assist.
