FLYERS OPEN WITH A WIN

Shutout Rangers 2-0 In Home Opener
Philadelphia, PA- J.S. Giguere stopped 20 shots (3/3 GR) on his way to shutting out the New York Rangers 2-0 at the Wavovia Center. On the other side of the ice, Henrik Lundqvist stood on his head. He stopped 46 of 48 shots (11/13 GR). The Rangers seemed to have the momentum off of the opening faceoff & Dany Heatley took a penalty at the 0:59 mark. The Rangers seemed to swarm on the Flyer net with 3 shots & at that point had 3-1 shot edge. But when Giguere made a nice kick save off a Petr Prucha shot, Patrick Sharp grabbed the rebound and went on a breakaway that was stopped & Michael Rozsival then was also denied on a SH breakaway. The Flyers kept them momentum for the rest of the game, in the first they outshot the Rangers 21-3. Simon Gagne scored the first Flyers goal of the season at 8:57 & in the third, Patrick Sharp scored the first PP goal at 12:00. Both goals were assisted by Heatley & Marc-Andre Bergeron.
